Explore Bolivia
Bolivia is a country in South America that sits between Peru and Brazil. The country is rich with history and culture, and it's also full of beautiful nature. Read on to learn about some of the best places to visit in Bolivia!
La Paz
La Paz is the administrative capital of Bolivia and its second largest city. The city is located in the Andes, at an altitude of 3,650 meters above sea level. La Paz is known for its colorful markets and steep streets that climb up to the city's main square. It has many churches built during colonial times as well as museums with artifacts from pre-Columbian civilizations.
La Paz has been called "the highest administrative capital in the world," because it sits above sea level--over two miles above sea level! You can reach La Paz by plane or by bus; there's also an aerial tramway connecting it to El Alto (another city nearby) called Teleferico de La Paz - El Alto Cable Car System if you'd prefer not to take public transportation.
El Alto
El Alto is the second most populous city in Bolivia and the capital of El Alto Municipality. It is located at an altitude of 3,650 meters above sea level, which makes it the highest capital city in the world.
The name El Alto means "The Heights" in Aymara language; Aymaras are an indigenous people who live primarily along an extensive area stretching from southern Peru through parts of Chile, Argentina and Bolivia (including La Paz). They're known for their distinctive clothing: men wear bowler hats with colorful bands around them while women wear large skirts made out of woven wool or cotton cloths that reach down to their ankles or knees depending on where they live--in rural areas where temperatures are cooler than those found in cities such as La Paz or Potosi during winter months when temperatures drop below zero degrees Celsius overnight!
Uyuni
Uyuni is a salt flat in the Andes, located between Chile and Argentina. It's a popular tourist destination for those who want to see one of nature's most unique sights: thousands of square miles of white-capped salt crystals that stretch out as far as the eye can see.
There are many tour operators that offer excursions to Uyuni, some staying at hotels or hostels while others opt for camping out under the stars on this vast expanse of land. Some tours include a visit to nearby Los Flamencos National Reserve or even Bolivia's famous Moon Valley (Valle de la Luna).
There are also plenty of hotels and hostels available for those looking for some more options than just camping! There's even an airport near town if you're coming from abroad--so all things considered it should be pretty easy to get there no matter where you're coming from!
Potosi
Potosi is a city in Bolivia and one of the highest cities in the world, located at an altitude of 3600m. It was once a major mining centre, known as "the city of silver".
The history of Potosi dates back to 1545 when Spanish settlers founded it as a mining town on top of Cerro Rico (rich hill). For many years it was one of South America's most important sources for silver and gold, but today its residents are mainly involved in agriculture or tourism-related businesses such as hotels or restaurants serving food from different regions across Bolivia such as Santa Cruz or Cochabamba.
