Where to go in Funchal

Funchal is a city in Madeira and the capital of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, Portugal. It's a popular tourist destination, known for its beaches, historical sites and natural landscapes. Funchal has been inhabited since 1420 when the island was discovered by Portuguese navigators. Quinta do Palheiro Ferreiro Park

Quinta do Palheiro Ferreiro Park is located in the old town, close to a number of restaurants and bars. It's best known for its playground, which has swings and slides for kids. There's also a small lake, where people can rent boats. The park has a good view of Funchal harbor and surrounding mountains--the perfect spot for relaxing on a bench or taking photos!

Madeira Botanical Garden

The Madeira Botanical Garden is a must-see for nature lovers. It's located on top of Monte Palace, and offers 360-degree views of Funchal and its surroundings. The botanical garden itself was created in 1864 as part of Queen Maria Pia's desire to create a botanical garden on the island, and today it still houses many native species that are endemic to Madeira (which means they cannot be found anywhere else). You can also visit their greenhouse and see what plants grow there year round!

When you arrive at the entrance gate, you'll be given a map with all their trails marked out for you--there are five different routes ranging from easy (green) to difficult (black). We chose one called "Trail 4," which took us through various types of vegetation including pine forest and cork oak trees. The path itself is well-marked with signs indicating where each type of plant grows so don't worry about getting lost!

Mercado Dos Lavradores

The Mercado dos Lavradores is a great place to buy souvenirs and local food. This market has been around since the late 19th century, when it was built by farmers who wanted a place to sell their goods directly to consumers.
