Waterfall Wuchang-Su

A unique feature of Uchan-Su is that it is the highest waterfall not only on the territory of the Crimean peninsula, but also in the entire European part of Russia and the former USSR in general. The waterfall is located near Yalta. The road to Wuchang-Su is a narrow serpentine running between steep mountain slopes. A picturesque natural park is adjacent to the waterfall, along which the path to Wuchang-Su passes. The vegetation here is represented mainly by the famous and unique Palassa pines - tall and majestic.

Very often, pines are located on rocks and steep slopes, forming a kind of amphitheater in this unique nature reserve. Pine fills the local air with an amazing aroma, forming, in combination with sea air, a unique microclimate.

In summer, the Wuchang-Su water stream noticeably dries up, turning into a pair of small jets. But this phenomenon also has its plus - you can come close to the waterfall without limiting your view to the observation deck. But still, the most beautiful and majestic waterfall is closer to April, during the period of high water of mountain rivers.

It can also gain full strength after heavy rains. During this period, the sound of water can easily be heard a kilometer from the waterfall itself. The height of the water fall is 98 meters. In sunny weather, a natural phenomenon looks especially fascinating, thanks to the rainbow. The observation deck during such periods is almost entirely covered with water dust.

In order to see the fall of the first cascade of the waterfall, you need to climb the stairs and follow the path through the passage. An attraction here is an eagle figurine mounted on the roof of the house - a component of the water intake structure.

They manage to tie ribbons on it, which is extremely unsafe, because. there is a risk of falling down on the stones. Here you can already observe the waterfall not from the bottom up, but vice versa. The spectacle is mesmerizing in its own way. From the edge of the cliff, you can watch how small portions of water fly onto the stones and, breaking, flow down from the rocks. It becomes clear why the waterfall is named that way, because if you translate from the Crimean Tatar, you get “flying water”.

The waterfall is an integral part of the riverbed of the same name and is located at an altitude of 380 meters above sea level. Wuchang-Su is not without its beauty in winter. If the temperature drops to low levels, the waterfall turns into an icefall. In the 80s of the last century, this same icefall was even conquered by a Soviet climber, who made the first extreme ascent to its summit.
